Michaela Zakutanská studied Dramaturgy at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. Her early plays were performed in various theatres in Slovakia, including Studio 12 in Bratislava, the Žilina City Theatre and the Alexander Duchnovič Theatre in Prešov.
Together with director Júlia Rázusová, she founded the “alternative” National Theatre Prešov in 2013. She has since written five plays for this theatre: Single Radicals (2013), Kinderegg (2015), Good place to die (2015), The day when Gott died (2017) A Street of Heroes (2018). She also writes theatre plays for children and teaches creative writing for young people.

Michaela Zakutanská is part of the Fabulamundi. Playwriting Europe network and also took part in the symposium “Is writing an activity, carrer or therapy? – Female perspectives on contemporary playwriting” 2020.
