Elena Schmidt, born and raised in Vienna, has lived in Berlin for several years. She studied acting at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Her theatre engagements include the Salzburg Festival, Volkstheater Vienna, Schauspiel Hannover, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and Deutsches Theater Berlin. She has worked with Jürgen Flimm, Amélie Niermeyer, Nurkan Erpulat, Nora Schlocker, Marta Górnicka, Florian Fiedler, Anna Badora, Staffan Valdemar Holm, Kevin Rittberger, Guillermo Calderon, Dries Verhoeven and Suna Gurler, Sebastian Nübling.
From 2019 onwards, she has been working as a permanent ensemble member at the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin. In addition to her theatre work, she has appeared in several short and feature films, such as the feature films ‘Local Heroes’ by Henning Backhaus, ‘Wie Man Leben Soll’ by David Schalko and ‘Prototypes’ by Doireann O’Malley, which won the Berlin Art Prize in 2018.
In the radio sector, she has worked with the radio stations Deutschlandradio, Ö1, WDR and BR. Since 2012, she has also been working as a director and dramaturge in radio drama alongside her voiceover work.
