Edwald Palmetshofer was born in 1978 in Maria Himmelfahrt in the Mühlviertel. After various school experiences, he studied theatre studies and German language and literature in Vienna. He then studied theology and philosophy/psychology. He lives and works in Vienna.
In 2005 he won the Retzhofer Literature Prize for “sauschneidn. ein mütterspiel”
In 2006 he was invited to the Forum of Young Authors at the “New Plays from Europe” biennial in Wiesbaden and to the workshop days at the Burg.
In 2007/08 he was in-house playwright at the Schauspielhaus Vienna
In 2008 he was nominated for the Nestroy Prize in the category “Best Newcomer” for the play “wohnen. unter glas”.
In 2010/11 he worked as an in-house playwright and guest dramatic advisor at the Nationaltheater Mannheim.
In 2011 he won the City of Vienna Prize for Literature.
In 2012 he was a jury member of the Berlin Play Market at the Berlin Theatre Meeting.
In 2013/14 he taught at the Institute for Language Arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
As part of the WIENER WORTSTAETTEN, he wrote the play “hamlet ist tot. keine schwerkraft”.
It premiered in 2007 at the Schauspielhaus Wien under the direction of Felicitas Brucker.
