Katharina Schlender, born in 1977 in Neubrandenburg, studied Scenic Writing at the Berlin University of the Arts. Since graduating in 2000, she has been living in Berlin as a freelance author.
She writes plays for children’s and youth theatre as well as for evening performances. Her work also includes radio plays and screenplays.
She was a founding member of the so-called “BattleAutoren”, which organised the first free and independent DramaTischTage in Berlin and is a founding member of the “Dramatische Republik”, a playwriting project that explores contemporary drama. She has received numerous grants and prizes for her work. For example, the Heidelberger Stückemarkt Authors’ Prize, the Baden-Württemberg Youth Theatre Prize and the Kleist Prize for Young Playwrights.
Katharina Schlender is part of the Fabulamundi. Playwriting Europe network and took part in the symposium “Is writing an activity, carrer or therapy? – Female perspectives on contemporary playwriting” in spring 2020.
