Moritz Franz Beichl, born 1992 in Vienna, grew up in Lower Austria. He joined the Junge Burg ensemble at Vienna’s Burgtheater at the age of 19. He then studied directing at the Theatre Academy in Hamburg. Beichl was shortlisted for the Köber Studio Junge Regie for his work, won the Start Off competition and was twice a prizewinner at the Hart am Wind Festival. In 2019, Beichl received the Nestroy Prize and in 2023 the Culture Prize of the Province of Lower Austria.

In 2022, Beichl’s debut novel “Die Abschaffung der Wochentage” is published by Residenz Verlag. In the same year, he writes and publishes his queer-feminist comedy rewrite “Effi, Ach, Effi Briest” with S. Fischer Verlag, which is performed in Austria and Germany. For his dramatic writing, he receives a scholarship from the Austrian Federal Ministry and a drama scholarship from the City of Vienna. His second novel “Männer” was published in spring 2024.

Beichl has directed at numerous theatres in Austria and Germany, including the DT Göttingen, Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Bronski & Grünberg Theater, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Tiroler Landestheater, Landestheater Niederösterreich and the Salzkammergut Festwochen Gmunden. In addition to novel adaptations, world premieres and his own drama, Beichl devotes himself above all to the classical canon and attempts to compare our current realities of life with classical plays by Shakespeare, Büchner, Schiller, Nestroy, Horváth, Molière and Kleist, among others.

As author he will take part in the Summer School 2024 in South Tyrol.
